Digital Media Internship
A prestigious educational non-profit organization based in Washington,
DC is seeking a part-time intern to assist with several high
visibility projects including:
- Managing the organization¹s social networking activities on Facebook and other social media outlets.
- Publishing the organization¹s digital media (audio and video) on iTunes U.
- Managing the organization¹s Wikipedia page and related pages.
- Designing and publishing content in Apple¹s iBooks format.
- Expanding current website with additional multi-media elements.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is excited to learn and
enjoys interacting with people. Additionally, the candidate must meet
the following requirements:
- Experience with digital media (light editing capability is a plus)
- Familiarity with Facebook and other social media (Twitter experience is a plus)
- Familiarity with Wikipedia
- Some HTML experience Compensation
$12 $15 per hour, depending on experience.

Internships at UNIC WashingtonEstablished in 1946, the UN Information
Center is responsible for US/UN issues and serves as a liaison to
Congress, the US government and foundations in Washington as well as
to the media, academic institutions and public across the United
States. The Center includes a small reference library that houses
official UN documents as well as other materials published by the
United Nations. The office also supports high-level visitors from
headquarters and field offices around the world. UNIC¹s internship
program presents an enormous opportunity for college students and post-
graduates seeking challenging intern-work experience in international
relations. The Center accepts interns three times a year (Fall, Winter/
Spring and Summer) with deadlines posted on the website on a unpaid
basis for a period of three months or more.
Requirements
Intern selection is highly competitive. We receive more than one
hundred applications each semester for 5 positions. Preference will be
given to students in their senior year of college or graduate school,
with major area of study in international relations, political
science, communications or related field. Students should demonstrate
excellent language, research and writing skills. Past experience in a
professional office environment is an asset. Knowledge of Microsoft
office is required. Preference is given to students who can work full-
time with a minimum of 3 days per week required.
Strong candidates will have demonstrated knowledge of the United
Nations system, the U.S. Government, Washington think tanks and media.
They will also have previous international experience and strong
interest in the UN and its focus areas. He/She will have a
professional demeanor and the ability to work in busy office with
changing priorities and minimal supervision. Above all, the strongest
candidates will have a can-do attitude and a sense of humor about
themselves.
Duties and Responsibilities
UNIC interns have a broad range of responsibilities that include
everything from representing the office at Washington events to
fielding public inquiries. As part of the program, interns attend
Capitol Hill hearings and NGO/think tank briefings on a variety of
international subjects and report back to the office and UN
headquarters on what was said. UNIC works with each intern to enable
him/her to attend meetings on topics of particular interest. Another
facet of the internship program involves monitoring international and
regional news and keeping UNIC abreast of important UN-related
developments. In addition to these primary responsibilities, interns
are responsible for assisting with UN events, outreach and public
inquiries. They are also given the opportunity to help write UNIC¹s
weekly newsletter and assist with visits of UN officials and conduct
research for UN staff and projects. Likewise, interns are expected to
assist with some administrative duties and contribute to the day-to-
day functioning of the office.

Major Activities:
- Setting up, managing and customizing client-specific websites within the framework of our proprietary CMS system
- Conducting regular site updates to provide the highest levels of quality and performance
- Troubleshooting site issues and working/coordinating with the development team, program management staff, and client-based customer service staff to resolve these issues
- Ensuring that client websites are satisfying contractual
requirements:
- Seamlessly plug into an ongoing corporate website redesign and branding-refresh effort
- Support new social network marketing efforts through Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, and produce collateral materials as needed
- Gain feedback from customers on new and existing features
- Identify and manage development of site enhancements
- Logo, flyer and other graphical design and development in support of client programming
- Responsible for live web-based customer service
- General offices responsibilities (calendar management, phones, email, etc.)
- Thoughtfully contributing to business development and technology expansion
Experience and Characteristics:
- Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Illustrator
- Working knowledge of entire Adobe Creative Suite
- Expert knowledge of web content optimization and standards
- Cross-browser CSS troubleshooting: Firefox, Safari, IE6 and above, Chrome, etc.
- Absolute comfort in both Mac and PC OS
- Working knowledge of MS PowerPoint (design and animation), Word, Excel and Access database manipulation
- College degree in computer-related field or equivalent experience
- Organization and analytic skills, with problem solving abilities
- Excellent communication and written skills
- Client-facing, customer service experience
- Experience working and communicating directly with custom development staff
- Creativity
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and contribute to new ideas required in a diverse, fast-paced, deadline-driven team environment
- Experience with content management systems and web publishing both proprietary and open source

- Experience with video editing and web streaming; specifically working with Final Cut Studio and publishing .flv video and other streatming formats

The Atlantic Council is seeking an enthusiastic graduate student, or exceptional undergraduate student, with excellent web skills for its Web Developer Internship.
The intern will provide support to the Managing Editor in web design projects and in the overall maintenance of the Council’s website.
- The ideal candidate will have a strong command of HTML and experience with Drupal, WordPress or other web content management systems.
